The Sienese Hills
Siena is the gateway to the "Crete", an area of clay hills extending towards the Southeast up to and beyond Viterbo. You have to cross them to get to Asciano, which is the "capital". Then San Giovanni d'Asso, Monte Oliveto Maggiore, Buonconvento (and we are on the Cassia road). From here you proceed in one of the less frequented areas of Tuscany, Murlo, Chiusdino, Monticiano, Radicondoli. Through Castelnuovo Val di Cecina you back into the region of geysers and geothermal energy, and then to Volterra and Montaione. |
